President - Oversees PTA Calendar, budget and coordinates PTA sponsored activities with the school. Responsible for chair positions under President:

 

  • Advocacy Chair: Follow legislative actions and positions taken by the Texas PTA and the National PTA and report to the PTA. Follow actions of the PISD school board and report to the Executive Board and the Association.
  • Council Delegate: Attends monthly Plano Council of PTAs meetings and shares information from those meetings with the PTA Board. Monitors legislative efforts and keeps PTA informed of any local, state or federal legislation that would impact Skaggs
  • Senior Reception Coordinator: Ideally a senior parent. Responsible for the organizing, coordinating, and publicizing the annual senior reunion reception.

 

VP of Community Programs - Works with parents, teachers & Board to select and schedule parent education programs, community events sponsored by the PTA. Responsible for chair positions under Community Programs:

 

  • Environmental Chair: Purchases and plants flowers at school entryways.  Maintains entry as needed for aesthetic purposes.
  • Fall Event Coordinator: Organize, coordinate, and publicize the annual Fall event; Forming and managing a committee that assists with operational support. Securing games, entertainment, food, volunteers and use of facilities. Partner with other Skaggs PTA chairs to execute the event. (i.e. Trunk or Treat)
  • Healthy Lifestyles Chair: Works with school administration to develop, plan and advertise Red Ribbon Week program. Also, coordinates Healthy Lifestyles week and any other district initiatives involving health and safety.
  • Hospitality Chair: Responsible for back-to-school events like the Back-to-school Breakfast/New Comers Breakfast. Coordinate welcoming new students and their families and encouraging their participation in PTA. Serve as head greeter at all PTA functions.
  • Parent Education Chair: Coordinate at least five hours of parent education, with virtual options available. Promote parent education events and work to engage all Skaggs parents.
  • Spring Event Coordinator: Someone who loves to coordinate large events and enjoys promoting and fundraising! Manage and oversee the annual Spring event. Form and manage a committee to help with operational support. Responsible for marketing and fundraising for the Spring event. Partner with other Skaggs PTA chairs to execute the event. (i.e. Fun Run/Color Run/other Spring Event)

 

 

VP of School Programs - Works with parents, teachers & Board to select and schedule after school programs. Works with school administration to schedule needed resources for assemblies. Responsible for chair positions under School Programs:

 

  • After School Programs Coordinator: Work with vendors to sign up, advertise, and provide information to parents regarding after school programs.  Assist parents with the registration process, ensure payments from parents and to vendors. Works with VP of School Programs to plan, coordinate, and publicize all after-school enrichment classes, including opportunities for virtual/remote classes. Schedule volunteers to supervise weekly dismissals of all classes.
  • Arts in Education Chair: Responsible for the annual National Reflections contest.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion/SAGE Chair: Works with the district to ensure the SAGE program is advertised and parents are engaged. Serve as liaison between campus teachers and families to support, educate, and help create an environment of inclusiveness in our school. Be a voice for SPED students’ needs during PTA sponsored events, such as Sensory Friendly time during the events or the ability to practice and preview Fun Run/Color Run events. Coordinates and organizes Diverse/All Abilities Day. Be responsible for the overall organization of volunteers for the special education department. Serve as the local representative on the Council SAGE committee; Publicize events especially targeted to parents of special education or gifted students. 
  • Field Day Chair: Work with coaches to set up a field day event. Provide needed materials, supplies and volunteers.
  • Kindergarten Grade Level Coordinator: Work with Kindergarten Teacher Lead to assist with classroom needs throughout the year and execute Winter Party, Friendship Party and End of Year Party. Recruit and communicate with room parents and party volunteers.
  • 1st Grade Level Coordinator: Work with 1st Grade Teacher Lead to assist with classroom needs throughout the year to execute Winter Party, Friendship Party and End of Year Party. Recruit and communicate with room parents and party volunteers.
  • 2nd Grade Level Coordinator: Work with 2nd Grade Teacher Lead to assist with classroom needs throughout the year and execute Winter Party, Friendship Party and End of Year Party. Recruit and communicate with room parents and party volunteers.
  • 3rd Grade Level Coordinator: Work with 3rd Grade Teacher Lead to assist with classroom needs throughout the year and execute Winter Party, Friendship Party and End of Year Party. Recruit and communicate with room parents and party volunteers.
  • 4th Grade Level Coordinator: Work with 4th Grade Teacher Lead to assist with classroom needs throughout the year and execute Winter Party, Friendship Party and End of Year Party. Recruit and communicate with room parents and party volunteers.
  • 5th Grade Level Coordinator: Work with 5th Grade Teacher Lead to assist with classroom needs throughout the year and execute Winter Party, Friendship Party, End of Year Party, and assist with 5th Grade Graduation. Recruit and communicate with room parents and party volunteers.
  • Units Classroom Coordinator: Work with 5th Grade Teacher Lead to assist with classroom needs throughout the year and execute Winter Party, Friendship Party, End of Year Party and assist with 5th Grade Graduation. Recruit and communicate with room parents and party volunteers.
  • School Supplies Coordinator: Work with teachers and EPI to provide school supply packs and planners to students. 
  • Staff Appreciation Coordinator: Responsible for the coordination of all activities undertaken by the Skaggs PTA in appreciation of faculty, administration, and support staff. Includes planning three luncheons throughout the year, and all Teacher Appreciation Week events in May.
  • Student Delegate: Ideally a Student Council member. Attends monthly Board meetings and shares information from the Skaggs Student Council.

VP of Membership - Submit members and dues to Texas PTA at least monthly, and become familiar with the structure of membership dues. Recruit new members throughout the year with the goal of recruiting one member for every student on campus. In charge of Life Membership / Extended service awards, and Texas PTA Membership Awards. Follow the timeline to plan for the Plano ISD Council Life Member Banquet held in the Spring. 

 

VP of Ways and Means - Oversees all fundraising activities.  Responsible for chair positions under Ways and Means:

 

  • Book Fair Co-Coordinator: Responsible for working with Scholastic/Literati to plan and execute a spring and a fall book fair. Partner with the Skaggs Librarian to plan and execute the Fall and Spring book fairs. Manage the operations of the Fall and Spring book fairs which includes: facilitate volunteer training on cash registers, coordinate special morning or lunchtime events, oversee the decorating committee, set fundraising goals, and promote book fairs online and at school. Coordination with other Skaggs PTA chairs for the event.
  • Passive Fundraising Chair: Responsible for advertising, collecting and submitting Box Tops for reimbursement. Works with vendors and shares information with parents so the school can get financial support.  Examples:  Amazon Smile, Mabel’s Labels, Kroger, Tom Thumb, Box Tops, etc.
  • Spirit Items Coordinator: Create designs and choose merchandise (i.e. school spirit shirts) to sell to students and parents throughout the year. Manage and maintain all necessary inventories for the Skaggs PTA spirit store. Acquire multiple bids (at least 3) from vendors on items to be sold. Manage the production, sale and distribution of any school spirit related merchandise. 
  • Spirit Night Coordinator: Work to set up events at local restaurants and event venues that will return a portion of proceeds to Skaggs Elementary.

 

VP of Communications - Coordinates and oversees all communication and media including enews contributions, PTA newsletter, Social media posts, flyers, and managing PTA email account. Focus on consistent, inclusive, and inviting PTA messaging to Skaggs families through all communication channels. Coordinate translation of communications as needed.Responsible for chair positions under Communications:

 

  • Digital Communication Coordinator: Prepare the weekly Skaggs Elementary PTA E-newsletter distribution by canvassing the PTA board, school administration, teachers, etc. for information needing to be shared.
  • Social Media Chair:  Keep Skaggs in the news and share information on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Next Door) as needed.
  • Website Coordinator: Keeps all online resources up to date, advertise sign ups as required and ensure parents/faculty and staff can use online tools as a repository for information that needs to be shared.
  • Yearbook Chair: Work with the yearbook vendor to design, create and develop an annual yearbook to be sold to students.  Advertise sales, collect money and arrange distribution.

 

Secretary - Takes minutes of all PTA meetings and submits for approval at each meeting.  Binds all minutes for permanent record and distributes sign in sheets at all meetings.

 

 

Treasurer - Responsible for all financial accounts, deposits money, writes checks, runs monthly financial reports, submits yearly sales tax and annual income tax forms.

 

 

Parliamentarian - Attends meetings and ensures PTA is following bylaws and standing rules.  Oversees Nominating Committee and submits updated bylaws at least every 4 years and standing rules adjustments as needed. Advise the presiding officer on questions of parliamentary procedure when asked.
