FAQs About Joining

Do I have to volunteer if I join the PTA?
No. Becoming a PTA member does not mean you are required to volunteer. While we welcome help and offer many volunteer opportunities, participation is always optional. Membership in PTA does not equate to participation.

What is a Community Membership?
PTA is for everyone. Whether you are a grandparent, aunt, uncle, neighbor, family friend, or community partner, we welcome you as a member of Skaggs Elementary PTA.

Do I have to attend meetings?
No. We hold four general PTA meetings per year, and while you are always welcome to attend, it is not required.

Do I need to spend a lot of time at school?
Not at all. We offer a variety of volunteer options. Some can be done from home, and others only take a few hours. Whether you are a working parent or have limited availability, there are flexible ways to support PTA if you choose to.

Is joining PTA hard or time-consuming?
Not at all. Joining is quick and easy. Becoming a member is simply a way to support our school, students, teachers, and programs.

Can I join even if I cannot volunteer?
Yes. Many members join just to show support. Your membership alone helps PTA make a difference at our school.

Do both parents have to join together?
No. One parent can join, or both can join separately. Each membership helps support Skaggs Elementary PTA. We encourage your student(s) to also become members of the PTA!

Can other family members join too?
Yes. Grandparents, guardians, aunts, uncles, and other family members are welcome to join and support our school community.

Do I have to know people to join?
No. PTA is a great way to get connected, but you do not need to know anyone to become a member. Everyone is welcome!

What does my membership support?
Your membership helps support programs, events, teacher support, student activities, and other opportunities that benefit the Skaggs school community.

If I join, do I have to help at every event?
No. Joining does not commit you to helping at events. You can choose if, when, and how you would like to be involved.

Is PTA only for stay-at-home parents?
Not at all. PTA is for all families and community members, including working parents and those with busy schedules.

Can dads join PTA too?
Absolutely. PTA is for anyone who wants to support students and our school community. We also have a great Dad's Club at Skaggs PTA!

Why should I join if I cannot be very involved?
Because every membership matters. Joining PTA is one of the easiest ways to show support for our school, even if your time is limited.

IF I JOIN THE PTA, DO I HAVE TO VOLUNTEER?

No!  Joining the Skaggs PTA does not mean that you have promised to volunteer. Members are not required to meet any kind of volunteer commitment. Please don't let your concern about volunteering keep you from being a Skaggs PTA member!
